Central America, Guatemala, ca. first half of the 20th century CE. A pair of antique slingshots (ondillas), hand-carved from hard wood. The first slingshot depicts a deceased human with bent legs, arms held against a slightly-bloated abdomen, and a tilted head with a blank expression. The second slingshot takes the form of a stylized skeleton standing atop delineated legs with arms draped to its pelvic bones. Both figures have several prongs projecting from their head or backs. Elaborately carved slingshots are a common theme of Guatemalan folk art from this period. Size of largest (skeleton): 1.375" W x 6.125" H (3.5 cm x 15.6 cm).

Condition
Both items have surface wear and minor abrasions commensurate with age, very minor nicks to legs, bodies, and prongs, and fading to some areas of finer detailing. Light earthen deposits and nice patina throughout.
