West Africa, Cote d'Ivoire, Baule peoples; Ghana, Fante peoples; Oceania, Papua New Guinea; ca. first half of the 20th century CE. A fine gathering of three hand-carved wooden figures. First is a Baule "blolo bian" (translated as "dream husband") that stands atop a fused base, holds sinuous arms against the slender abdomen, and boasts recessed eyes and a broad nose on an enlarged head. Second is a Fante figure with a tiered base, a cylindrical body with perky breasts, and an elongated head with slit-form eyes. Last is a Papua New Guinea standing figure with delineated legs, broad shoulders, and a stocky head with crescent-shaped eyes. Size of largest (Papua New Guinea): 2.5" W x 9.7" H (6.4 cm x 24.6 cm); 10.375" H (26.4 cm) on included custom stand.
Provenance: Estate of R. Pearson, Denver, Colorado, USA; Mr. Pearson collected from the third quarter of the 20th century until he passed away.

Condition
Papua New Guinea figure has small losses to feet. Each figure has some stable fissures, minor abrasions to body and limbs, and softening to some finer details. Fante and Baule figures are intact. Light earthen deposits and fine patina throughout.
