A STAFFORDSHIRE GLAZED POTTERY FIGURE OF WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE, ENGLISH, CIRCA 1865, the white glazed with polychrome enamel and gilt highlighted pottery figure of William Shakespeare in doublet, breeches, and ermine trimmed cape, standing in contrapposto, his right elbow resting upon a stack of three books atop a pedestal, while in his right hand he holds another book, raised on oval base, the front with traces of painted inscription "Shakespeare," unmarked. Height: 18 5/8"

Condition

Overall crazing to glaze, minor glaze losses/chips on forehead and nose and on base, rubbing and losses to gilding, minor surface scratching commensurate with age.
