CHINESE LARGE CARVED CINNABAR LACQUER CENSER, QINGSUPERB ANTIQUE CHINESE LARGE CARVED CINNABAR LACQUER CENSER, QING, TONGZHI 19TH C. Seal mark and period of Tongzhi, 1862-1873. The large tripod censer of archaistic ding form, the compressed globular body intricately carved with stylized taotie mask flanked by scrolled foliate against a honeycomb diaper ground, below a narrow band of stylized ruyi pattern at the rim further applied a pair of carved dragon handles, all supported on three cabriole legs issuing from the body bottom, the domed cover surmounted by a rounded fu lion knob surrounded by two bands of archaistic zoomorphic scroll, the interior lacquered blue, with wear on enamel and signs of use. Sitting on a well carved huanghuali fitted stand. Height of censer without stand 12 inches, 30 cm. Width 10.5 inches, 26 cm. Provenance: Private Florida collection.
