Description
This lot consists of a fine art print on paper, done in the Surrealist style of Rene Magritte (Belgian, 1898-1967). Image depicts a crumbling turret whose foundation morphs into the myriad roots of a massive tree. Handwritten inscription at bottom of print reads, "E.A. Magritte". This is an iteration of Rene Magritte's well-known oil painting, "La Folie Almayer" (1951). A ruminating and mysterious piece. Approximate unframed dimensions are 8.5" x 6".
Rene Magritte (Belgian, 1898-1967) was a painter whose imaginative style has been a major influence on a number of later art movements, including Pop Art and minimalism. Magritte's work typically shows mundane objects in an unusual, often sparse context, giving them a dreamlike and fantastical quality. The artistic legacy of Rene Magritte lives on today through direct tributes in music, film, theatre, and so much more.
