Yolande Ardissone (French, born 1927)
Born in Normandy on June 6, 1927 to an Italian father and a Russian mother, Yolande Ardissone left Normandy at age 17 to study at the Ecole des Arts Appliques in Paris. Two years later she transferred to the Ecole des Beaux-Arts* and studied in the atelier* of Unterstellar.
In 1953 she was inducted into the Salon d'Automne*. Wally Findlay Galleries began representing her in 1957, hosting her first one-woman show in the United States. She has won numerous awards due to the lively sensitivity of her paintings and her firm and balanced compositions.
Her canvasses are painted with a mature technique, forcefully, with textured paint radiating a natural and joyful dynamism. Her painting has a lot in common with the Fauves*. This is understandable, when you see her strongly colored palette, and the spontaneous expression of what she feels with her brush she transmits forcefully.
The French Government, the City of Paris, the Musee de la Marine, the Musee de Saint-Mur, the Musee de Saint-Cyprien and the Musee de Saint-Denis have all purchased her paintings.
