Modernist oil on canvas 20 x 24 in., 21 x 25 in. (framed). The following is from his obituary: Peter Otis Zelazo passed away May 14, 2020 at the Carrie Elligson Gietner Home, St. Louis, Missouri.He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Katherine Virginia Otis Zelazo. He was an only child.Peter was born October 4, 1942 in the city of New York. He earned a Ph.D. in biochemistry from Cornell University. He was offered an assistant professorship, but gratefully declined. He went on to study at the Art Institute of New York and became an accomplished artist. The photo above is his self portrait.Peter’s maternal lineage has been traced back to James Otis, Jr., Esq. (1725-1783) who was a contemporary of John Adams. James Otis, Jr. was a prominent political voice in the settlement of the 13 colonies. It is indicated in history that he participated in the Boston Tea Party.Peter was a member of the Theosophical Society of St. Louis, a lifetime member of the Theosophical Society in America, Wheaton, Illinois. Some years ago, he had attended the Midwest Federation meetings at the Ozark Theosophical Camp, Sulphur Springs, Arkansas. Peter read and studied until the end of his life.
