Description
Ellis Buckner (American; Florida, 1943-1991). Original oil painting on upson board. Florida wetlands landscape, a solitary tree bearing Spanish Moss, with mangroves, water birds standing and in flight, and a serene lakescape with a distant background shore. Signed lower right E. BUCKNER. Buckner and his companion Florida Highwaymen were young 1950s and 1960s era African American landscape artists mentored by Albert Ernest (Beanie) Backus (American, 1906-1990), who was regarded as the Dean of Florida Painters. Presented in a rustic period wood frame. Good overall condition, normal wear to frame. Measures 24 in. x 36 in. (board), 29 in. x 41 in. (framed). Hill Auction Gallery will not ship.
