Description
American. 1860s. Mahogany Empire style sleigh front clock; cornice top with magnificently carved spiral columns with feather and pineapple carved foot on each column. Double door with two panels on upper door. Dial is metal with Roman numerals. Upper - Gilt with blue background. Lower - Gilt with Eagle and Blue background. Brass eight day weight driven lyre shaped movement. Escapement is recoil with strike on hour. Movement stamped, stamped "S. Thomas Plymouth, Conn, USA" with Eagle. Label marked, "Eight Day Brass Clocks Made and Sold by Seth Thomas, Plymouth Hollow, Conn''. 32.5" (h); 16.5" (w); 5" (d). Striking example of Empire Style Case. Dial is flaking. Hands are missing. Columns may be upside down - originality is in question. Dick Withington collection.
