Rolex 1927 Oyster 33mm 18K Yellow Gold Watch W/Brown Lizard Skin Strap - This vintage Rolex timepiece from 1927 is one of the first Oyster watches that the renowned manufacturer released. Introduced in 1926, the Oyster watches became famous for their "Oyster" cases that guaranteed waterproofness, a groundbreaking feat for wristwatches at the time. Unlike the previous watch cases that consisted of three parts (with the back and the bezel hinged to the case body, stopping the case from being waterproof due to the gap), the Oyster case was hermetically sealed, providing optimal protection for the movement. The waterproofness was famously attested in 1927, when the Oyster watch was worn by the British swimmer Mercedes Gleitze on one of her swims across the English Channel. The Rolex Oyster thus set the foundation for wristwatch design in the future. This model has an 18K yellow gold 33mm offbeat octagonal case, an atypical case style in a period when cushion shape was the standard, eggshell dial with painted Roman numerals and railroad-style minute track, manually wound Aegler 15 jewel movement with central hours and minutes and small seconds functions, and brown lizard skin strap with tang buckle. This is truly a rare find and a must have for the Rolex enthusiast. Measurements: 8" length buckle to furthest hole. Condition: The watch is working and is in overall very good vintage condition.
