T. Nash Buckingham 1917 one page T.L.S. on the Buckingham family Sporting Goods store letterhead Memphis. Celebrated Tn. author, sports writer, and early football pioneer at the University of Tennessee. Nash is helping settle a Memphis Country Club membership issue for the estate of his mentor JWS Rhea founder of Memphis University School. In this letter Buckingham attributes his success as an author to Rhea. He writes of his high regard for Rhea, their golfing companionship and his 4 years at the school with Rhea as a teacher. JWS Rhea (James White Sheffey Rhea of Marion Va.) founded the school in 1893 with Edwin Werts. Nice signature in black fountain pen. Also includes a 1917 handwritten letter on Knoxville Knitting Mills stationary to Nash from D.W. Rodgers, a 1917 letter on Memphis Country Club letterhead from Manager Ellison and a 1911 letter from Rhea to H.B. Staley (executor of Rhea's estate and Rhea's brother in law) on Memphis School stationary. Both Rodgers and Ellison were mentioned in Buckingham's letter as Nash was asked by__ Staley to help settle the golf membership. The 1911 letter to Staley concerns Marion Virginia property.
