Description
Thomas Luny (1759-1837) English, 'The Ness at Teignmouth', oil on canvas, a Royal Navy frigate anchored off the coast under dark clouds, flying the Red Ensign, with figures on the shore and further ships to the background, signed to lower left corner and dated 1815, 48.5 cm x 66 cm in a gilt gesso frame.
Footnote: Provenance: Gallery labels verso for 'Pawsey & Payne, 1 Bury Street, St James's Square' and David Messum, Beaconsfield. Previous private owners in the Beaconsfield area.
Condition report: Some thin cracking evident to lighter shaded areas on close inspection, no apparent paint loss. Rubbing visible to edges where it meets the frame. Some repairs to the frame. Would benefit from a professional clean. Measurements with frame: 70.5 cm x 88 cm
