“Cuba's fight for freedom, and the war with Spain” is a detailed and highly illustrated description of the 1895-98 Cuban Rebellion and the Mexican American War. Henry Beck was a well-known 19th century writer of history and published a number of similar works, deriving his information from newspaper accounts to take advantage of the American public’s interest in the conflict. Beck in typical fashion of the times wrote the book with America as the hero and Spain the evil dictator needing to be overthrown.
This 1889 first edition of these two volumes in one includes 64 illustrations including maps, one of which is a full fold-out color map of Cuba and a decorated blue cloth binding.
