A rare late 18th-century art dictionary of famous painters and artists from Europe including Italy, Holland, Flanders, and England. Written by Matthew Pilkington, this book features the history of painting and biographies of some of the most important painters. ‘Dictionary of Painters’ covers the history of art from the mid-13th-century through 1767. This book became known as “Pilkington’s Dictionary” and was regularly reprinted through the 19th-century.
