John Cary was a famous English cartographer from the 18th-century. Cary gained his reputation as a map maker from his works on globes and traveler’s guides – atlas works which would become the standard references works in England by the end of the 1700s. His book ‘New Itinerary’ was published in 1798 which was a thorough survey of the major roads in England and Wales. It features numerous charts of distances, road lengths, crossroads and intersections, county seats, and much more important topographical data.
Note that this first edition includes the double-page, folding map of England and Wales.
