Jedidiah Morse was an important and prominent geographer known for his American textbooks, books that earned him the name ‘father of American geography.’ While he is most famously remembered for books such as ‘American Universal Geography’ and ‘Gazetteer’, he did produce a number of lesser-known works including sermon collections, an annals of the American Revolution, and ‘A Compendious history of New England’.
‘History of New England’ covers a wide variety of topics including colonization of New England States, first settlements, rise of Puritans and their sufferings, attacks by Indians and Pequot wars, Pilgrims and Miles Standish at Plymouth, life account of Thomas Hooker, Quakers rise in Connecticut and Pennsylvania, a report on Phillip’s War, as well as a physical description of New England landscapes.
