Item Details
Description
Long before P&G introduced their iconic Ivory Soap brand in the 1880's, there was Procter and Gamble's "Amber" soap as shown in this remarkable ad from the mid-19th century. This paper sign is marked for the Donaldson Brothers Lithographers of Five Points, New York. They were in business from 1872 to 1891. Based on the launch of Ivory soap in the 1880's, this advertisement dates to the early 1870's. And what an incredible advertisement it is. A questionable combination of characters not represented in advertising today and certainly a statement of the times, in full color lithography showing printers marks. Condition shows two slight folds only noticeable upon close examination as well as light soiling, primarily to the outside edges. It is surprising this sign is not in the archives of P&G, but here it is ready for the archives of your collection. Condition: (8.0 - 8.5). Dimensions: Frame: 24 - 1/4" x 30 - 1/4".
