Description
Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A lovely free-blown glass jar with a light aqua hue that sits on a slightly concave base and rises upward to a rounded shoulder and narrow neck. The mouth flares outward with a rolled rim, and a faint rainbow iridescence has formed across small areas of the glass. This dainty jar was perhaps used for storing scented oil or perfume for a Roman lady. The translucent nature of glass was highly prized in the ancient world, and this is a fine example! Size: 1.8" W x 4.125" H (4.6 cm x 10.5 cm)
