Description
Roman Empire, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd centuries CE. A free-blown light green glass pitcher/jug presenting a bulbous body upon a dimpled base with a broken pontil scar, a tubular neck with a flared rim, a thick trail handle bridging rim to shoulder, and a lovely decorative trail just below the rim. After the invention of blown glass in the first century CE, glass became easy to mass produce; hence, glass items entered everyday Roman life for the majority of householders. A small vessel like this one may have been used for pouring olive oil. Size: 3.25" W x 4.875" H (8.3 cm x 12.4 cm)
