Description
Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 2rd century CE. A fine cast bronze patera resting on a base decorated with concentric circles delineated in relief. It swells upward to three incised bands below the flared lip. A flat handle extends outward from the rim with several small perforations near the end for attaching a cord. A patera is a shallow bowl used for ladling food or beverages at dinner parties and during ceremonies or rituals. The handle and bowl of such vessels are often found separately, so this is a great find with the handle still attached! Size: 8.46" L x 4.37" W x 2" H (21.5 cm x 11.1 cm x 5.1 cm)
