Description
We have a prize winner here with this clock. According to the letter included inside, it is a clock that belonged to the grandmother of our client. It goes on to say that the case is rosewood veneer with two section glass door. The owner was looking to have it restored and described the then current condition. The letter was sent to the Seth Thomas Clock Co who declined to assist as they stated they no longer restored clocks, as noted in the hand written reply on the back. Later in the year, he located a local restorer, Winfield Clock Repair Shop in Huntington Park, CA who restored the clock as you see it today. Clock face has peach toned flowers with an olive green leaf and roman numerals. The bottom paned glass door is reverse painted ship. All the restoration took place in 1961. According to the letter, October 1869 was written on the back, the restorer gave a new finish to the back of the clock, so the date can no longer be seen, but the original label is in tact which gives 28, Oct as a date. In 1963, it was entered in the Los Angeles County Fair, Pomona where it took home a 3rd prize ribbon. We do not have the original key, but we had one in our posession and tested the clock. It currently is working and the chime works, but it has not been tested for accuracy. Approximate dimensions, 25" x 15 1/4" x 4".
