A RECONSTRUCTION ERA FEDERAL "AMNESTY OATH" WITH REFERENCE TO THE EMANCIPATION OF SLAVERY, WITNESSED BY H. BEARD, CAPT. & ASST. PROVOST MARSHAL, SIGNED, PARDON FOR J.N. SCHMIDT, GALVESTON, JULY 6, 1865, engraving and hand inscribed ink on paper, no. 220, the contracts signed by former confederate soldiers to gain full amnesty and pardon for participation "during the existing rebellion," and witnessed by federal Provost Marshals. 8 1/2" x 10" Provenance: Estate of Dr. Paul E. Shutts, Houston, Texas.
