JULIUS STOCKFLETH (American/Texas 1857-1935) A PAINTING, "Das liebe Elternhaus.," WYK AUF FÖHR, 1924, oil on canvas, signed, placed and dated L/R, titled at center. 13" x 18 1/2" Note: The title translating to, "My loving Parents' Home.," is of typical Frisian style with a thatched roof and a small side building. The side of the building painted with the date 1796. Julius Stockfleth returned to Germany in 1907 after living in Galveston, Texas. He remained in Wyk Auf Föhr for the remainder of his life. Provenance: Property of a Texas Gentleman, Houston, Texas.
Condition
Dry pigment, losses, filled areas with inpainting, now laid to second canvas, surface soil, texture of paint is rough, dry, flaky, and delicate, but overall in good condition, wear commensurate with age.
