A very large carved wooden village shrine idol of a female ancestor with enlarged belly perhaps suggesting a maternity shrine and shown with one hand on the shoulder and a wonderful facial expression. The Idol has a large cavity carved out in the back and what appears to be a place for offerings. Bangwa peoples, Cameroon, Africa. The figure measures 55 x 18 inches and will include a metal display stand. Provenance: Ex Allan Stone Collection, New York.
