Old animal hide shield with bent wooden frame work and painted traditional designs. Masai peoples, Kenya, East Africa. The Shield measures 36 x 23.5 inches. Ex. Private VA. Collection. Field collected between 1957 and 1967 by Melville Bell Grosvenor Of National Geographic, In Kenya. Mr Grosvenor was the president of the National Geographic Society and editor and contributing photographer of The National Geographic Magazine from 1957 to 1967. He was the grandson of telephone inventor Alexander Graham Bell.
