Fornander Collection of Hawaiian Antiquities and Folk-Lore, 9 parts in 3 vol., being Vols IV-VI of the Memoirs of the Bernice Pauahi Bishop Museum, text in Hawaiian and English, some light soiling to titles, attractive 20th century half calf, spines gilt in compartments with red morocco labels, original wrappers bound in (some a creased), uncut, 4to, Honolulu, Bishop Museum Press, 1916-20.

Fornander was a Swedish-born emigrant to Hawaii who spent some time as a whaler and journalist before becoming a respected judge on the Circuit Court. He devoted much of his spare time to his ethnographic studies of the Hawaiian race; on his death in 1887 his voluminous research passed to the Bishop Museum who eventually ensured their publication.
