Description
**First Time At Auction**
Pre-Columbian, El Salvador, Maya, Copador, Late Classic Period, ca. 550 to 900 CE. A hand-built and highly burnished pottery olla bearing a register of abstract zoomorphic creatures along the basin walls. The olla features gradually expanding walls with a thin rim, and the exterior bears a program of black fish scales beneath repeating, crescent-shaped pseudo-glyphs. The center of the basin exhibits a stylized, radiating sun, and the mesmerizing creatures are surmounted by black and red stripes. Size: 7.75" W x 2.9" H (19.7 cm x 7.4 cm)
Provenance: private Hawaii, USA collection; ex-private T. Misenhimer collection, Beverly Hills, California, USA, collected from 1970 to 2008

Condition
Minor abrasions to rim, walls, and base, with fading to pigment, otherwise intact and very good. Nice remains of pigment throughout.
