Rare Chinese 17 Century Ming/Qing Dynasty Stoneware Green Glazed Jars carved to the fronts with applied Flowers & Leaves glazed with yellow and clear glaze splashes; bases unglazed and each with similar finely pierced and carved antique hard wood covers. Height with cover 9 1/2 inches (24 cm.). PROVENANCE: Christie's East, New York circa early 1980's with old label to one base and old catalogue for Lot 135 without date ("A Pair of Sancai Ginger Jars, 19th Century [sic], moulded with relief flowerheads and splashed with green and ochre; covers. (2)").

Stoneware with age related wear, 1 jar with minor short hairline at foot ring; 1 hard wood cover with 1 shrinkage line and joint lines, the other cover with a small chip to pierced carving at top.
