Im Inventar der Sammlung Galaverni wie folgt beschrieben: "A Songye Kifebwe mask. Among the Songye of the Katanga and Kasai region, these masks, called 'Kifebwe' were used in rituals of the same name. This is a male specimen and as such it has a high crest on top of his head, an element not present in female masks. The architectonic volumes so favoured by the Songye are here weil exemplified: the arched hollowed form, the mouth carved as an elongated rectangular protruding below the triangular nose, the dramatic crest rising from the forehead, the large open eyes, the striped pattern with a sequence of white, black and red colours, all these elements concur in conveying the striking Impression of strength of this beautiful specimen."

Maske des bwadi ba kifwebe-Geheimbundes die ein mythologisches Geistwesen verkörperte. Sie wurde mit einem geflochtenen Kostüm und einem langen Bart aus Raphia ergänzt und tanzte an verschiedenen Zeremonien, um die gesellschaftliche Ordnung im Dorf zu sichern.

Die hier angebotene männliche Maske wird vor Ort "kilume" genannt. Der oft verwendete Begriff "kifwebe" wird heute mit „Maske“ gleichgesetzt, bedeutete aber früher „halte den Tod fern“. Die Masken sollten somit vor Krankheit und Unfällen schützen.
