Description
This lot consists of an unframed watercolor illustration on paper, rendered in the abstract expressionist style of modern artist Wassily Kandinsky (Russian, 1866 - 1944). A small, handwritten insignia can be noted at bottom left corner. Shapes, lines and warm colors come together to suggest an acutely kinetic energy. A fine example of the creative flair for which Kandinsky is so well known. This unframed piece measures approximately 11.75" x 14.75".
Wassily Wassilyevich Kandinsky (Russian, 1866 - 1944) was a Russian painter and art theorist. Kandinsky is generally credited as the pioneer of abstract art. Born in Moscow, Kandinsky spent his childhood in Odessa, where he graduated at Grekov Odessa Art school. He enrolled at the University of Moscow, where he studied law and economics, until he eventually began artistic studies (life-drawing, sketching, and anatomy) at the age of 30. Playful and poignant, Kandinsky is generally credited as the pioneer of abstract art.
