Bernardus Johannes Blommers was a Dutch 19th Century painter who was born in 1845. Bernardus Johannes Blommers's work has been offered at auction multiple times. Blommers broadened his skills in the studio of Christoffel Bisschop, where he absorbed his instructorÕs fascination with the accomplishments of seventeenth-century Dutch painters. As a novice painter, Blommers revered this characteristically Dutch visual tradition, but he would soon develop his own style as part of the new Ômodern schoolÕ at The Hague. In 1876, he helped establish the Hollandsche Teeken-Maatschappij (Dutch Drawing Society), an organization dedicated primarily to the promotion of watercolors.
