Bernardus Johannes Blommers was a Dutch 19th Century painter who was born in 1845. Bernardus Johannes Blommers's work has been offered at auction multiple times. The record price for this artist at auction is USD $216,000 for The Happy Family, sold at Christie's New York in 2008. Blommers broadened his skills in the studio of Christoffel Bisschop, where he absorbed his instructorÕs fascination with the accomplishments of seventeenth-century Dutch painters. As a novice painter, Blommers revered this characteristically Dutch visual tradition, but he would soon develop his own style as part of the new Ômodern schoolÕ at The Hague. In 1876, he helped establish the Hollandsche Teeken-Maatschappij (Dutch Drawing Society), an organization dedicated primarily to the promotion of watercolors. Blommers was widely recognized by fine arts societies. According to a New York Times interview with Blommers, dated April 14, 1912, the artist was ÒÉawarded medals at Paris, Brussels, The Hague, Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Munich, Berlin, St. Louis, Chicago, and Philadelphia.
