Description
Volumes 2 and 3 of Shaftesbury's Characteristicks of Men, Manners… 1711. Inscribed by several generations of the Morgan family. Signed on title by John Morgan who apparently gave the volumes to his brother George Morgan (1743-1810.) George Morgan, Colonel in Continental Army, confidant of Aaron Burr who eventually exposed Burr's treasonous intentions in the American West to the Jefferson administration. Volumes then presented by George to his son Thomas Morgan (1784-1855) on title-pages. Volumes presented by Thomas Morgan to his son George Washington Morgan (on pastedowns.) George W. Morgan was a Union Army General. An inscription on page 100 of the second volume, signed by elder George Morgan, "These volumes of Characteristicks I bequeath to my son Thomas. In them he will find a most valuable fund of instruction. George Morgan."
Condition
Bindings rubbed, contents with some staining near front and rear. Not collated, but appearing to be complete volumes.
