Group from US Army Air Forces Brigadier General Jesse Auton that was obtained via a relative of his out of the trunk of a car approximately 25 years ago and has been together ever since. During WWII in 1943 he was Commander of the 4th Air Defense Wing in the UK, and then the Commanding General of the 65th Fighter Wing, 8th AAF over Europe until 1945. He served in a variety of positions post war until his death in 1952 due to an airplane crash while serving as Chief of the Fighter Division, Strategic Air Command. Set of medals to include Legion of Merit (Navy version in a Navy style coffin case), Distinguished Flying Cross, Bronze Star, Air Medal, Croix de Guerre, Legion of Honor, Order of the British Empire (Comes with the original large George the Sixth OBE Certificate and the dispatch letter), and campaign medals. The campaign medals were not his and were put in there for display. Medal set has 8th AAF British made patch and sterling pin back WWII Brigadier General stars (case itself not included). None of the medals are engraved or numbered.
