Description
Malcolm Leland framed cast aluminum 1966 Caltech Grille architectural element. Frame size 29" x 33", image size 25" x 29". Provenance Cardwell Jimmerson Gallery, Los Angeles, Private Collection, Bay Area collector. Leland started out as a ceramic artist in Southern California after WWll with Malcolm Leland Ceramics, he did a number of designs for Architectural Pottery which became the planter of choice among Modernist Architects to compliment their designs. His ceramic bird shelter won the MoMA Good Design Award in 1955. In 1957 he was asked to create the louvered ceramic facade of the L.A. Hall of records by architect Richard Neutra. His career spanned over 50 years and his clean designs in Modernist sculpture, pottery and architectural elements are highly respected and collected.

Very good vintage condition, light wear age related wear to the aluminum.
