Chinese Sancai Glazed Earthen Pagoda, 1575-1600, with multiple tiers, Kanji calligraphy on lower base memorializes deceased members of Guangzhou KWL family, 61 1/2" high overall when assembled, individual components measure 27" x 19" x 11"; 17 1/2" x 19 1/2" x 12" & 17" x 14 1/2" x 10 1/2". Losses and chips.Outer Beijing, Xi Bei Tsien Imperial Compound. Exhibited in the Metropolitan Museum's Astor Chinese Garden Court in the mid-1990s as part of a special exhibit honoring Brooke Astor's collection and philanthropy. Provenance: Collections of William Walker & descendants, Walker Foundation, Hamner Foundation, and Vincent Astor/Astor Foundation (early 1950s-1960, later returned to the Astor family).
