Description
"David Vainquer", monumental life size bronze sculpture, signed on integral plinth 'A+Mercie', a late 20th c. copy of the 1872 original. Created to commemorate the victory of the Franco-Prussian War, the original is in the Musee d'Orsay, copies of various sizes entitled 'David After the Combat' were issued from the Barbedienne foundry in the 19th c. This version is 69" tall, roughly 37" wide, 19" deep. Very good condition, warm brown patina, a few light rubs, most notably on the right upper arm. Provenance: From Private Collection, Harpswell, ME.
