Painting of Montecito,California or South of France, 24" x 20"frame, 19.5" x 15.5" painting.Circa 1920.-------------------------------------------------------------David's notes: I bought this at Ventura County flea market in Los Angeles around 30 years ago, which makes me think it's probably the Pacific Coast Highway which runs through Ventura County and past Montecito and up to Santa Barbara, California.The signature G.L.Dykes(?)I never identified, but I enjoyed this painting for 30 years, since the trip from Santa Monica where my store was up the coast to Santa Barbara was a favorite antiques shopping route in my younger days.The photo which appears to show a hole in the canvas is deceiving, that is an old piece of paper stuck to the canvas, there is no hole in the painting.----------------------------------------------------------------------------------This painting could be the South of France as well.The quality and thick impasto is very much like what was going on in that part of the world at that time, although Dykes doesn't sound French.
