Description
**Originally Listed At $800**

An original watercolor painting of architectural interiors by an unknown artist of the American South, ca. 1920 CE. A stunning architectural rendering depicting interior designs that demonstrate strong William Morris Arts and Crafts influence - all created by the hand of an artist who was active in Atlanta, Georgia in the early 20th century. William Morris was perhaps the most celebrated designer of the Arts and Crafts Movement. The printed wallpaper designs presented on this watercolor are very reminiscent of Morris' woodblock-printed designs, and the immense attention to architectural details as well as the inclusion of wonderful decorative arts elements reflect great Arts and Crafts influence. Look closely to see the fabulous figural tapestries, gilded mirrors, Chinese porcelain vases, elaborate doors, paintings, and furniture pieces in the composition. Complementing this composition perfectly is a gilded frame with fine details. Size: 34.625" W x 17.5" H (87.9 cm x 44.4 cm); 39.5" W x 22.75" H (100.3 cm x 57.8 cm) framed

The Arts and Crafts Movement emerged in England in approximately 1880 - arising as a response to the mass production of the industrialization era with its emphasis on hand-made craft and design. Architects, craftsmen, designers, and artists participated in this movement which infiltrated all aspects of design - wall coverings, furniture upholstery, ceramics, curtains, and more. Morris was a champion of the art of craftsmanship taking inspiration from nature. Over the course of his career, he created over 50 wallpaper designs and became an internationally respected designer who inspired many architects, sculptors, painters, and designers of his era and beyond.
