Sonnambulismo - Art by Mauzan (1911) Italian Theatre Advertising Poster - Framed Mauzan at his ghoulish, phantasmagorical best. This poster is for a French film presented by prolific producer Leon Gaumont, who made literally hundreds of one-reel films between 1907 and 1915. The films unprinted title roughly translates to Sleepwalker and most likely dealt with the hot topic of the time: whether one was able to manipulate someone in a somnambulic state to do things, much like under hypnosis, that they normally wouldn't do--such as commit a crime. The ultimate work, in terms of cinematic imagination, would appear in the classic The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, but this was likely an earlier one-reel look at that intriguing question. The source of the frenzy in the poster seems to be the contents of the bottle out of which the nearly toothless lecher is attempting to extract something.
