Large Bactrian Stone Mace (c. 2000 BC)
This large mace has five small attachment holes and one large hole for the handle. The center is hollowed to lighten the piece, yet keep its massive appearance. There are two fine incised circles around each of the five attachment holes. Mace heads first appeared in the Near East around 8,000 BCE, alongside the development of agriculture.
