Native American, Southwestern US, Mimbres-Mogollon (Anasazi / Ancestral Puebloan), Late Pithouse Period, ca. 550 to 1000 CE, probably closer to the end of that period. A wide-mouthed round bowl with a smooth interior and a corrugated, highly textured exterior. The vessel has a rounded base and was made to rest in sand. The corrugated exterior is composed of dozens of thin rows of sculpted decoration. Vessels like this one were used primarily for cooking, storage, and serving food. Repaired from over a dozen pieces with some losses as shown. Chip from rim. Interior has been overpainted with black in modern times. Exterior shows nicely preserved corrugation with some firing marks.
