Manuscript document, 4 pp. 21x33 cm (8x12¾").
A partial loose translation: "In front of us, Don Pedro Piernas, captain of infantry and lieutenant governor of this establishment...appeared the person of Mr. Don Antonio de Oro, officer in this garrison of St. Louis, who has stated and recognizes and promises to pay to Sieur Guillaume Lecomte, resident merchant in this post, that he has received the sum of 1705 livres in silver..." The document is signed by Antonio Joseph de Oro, Pernas and Mr. M[artin] Duralde, below which is the mark of Lecomte acknowledging that the debt has been paid and that this obligation is of no value, and witnessed by Duralde again, St. Louis 8 June, 1775. Pedro Piernas was directed by Ulloa to take charge of upper Louisiana in 1769. Piernas appointed martin Duralde surveyor of St. Louis, and his report and plat was filed May 20, 1772.
