BIOGRAPHY:
Carol Lee Thompson is a Classical Realist trained in the methods of the Old Masters. She graduated from the Maryland Institute College of Art with a M.F.A. and the Schuler School of Fine Art.
Carol Lee shows extensively and is featured in galleries throughout the country including Santa Fe, New Mexico; Tucson and Scottsdale, Arizona; Colorado; Washington, D.C.; New England, and Florida. Her work is part of many corporate and private collections including the Butler Institute of Art. Carol Lee's
exhibits include the Tucson Museum "Women Artists and the West" show, the Gilcrease and Albuquerque Museum "Miniature Show", the C.M. Russell Museum Auction and the Oil Painters of America Juried Exhibit. In addition, she has won many awards including the Cheyenne Frontier Days Museum Show, The
Northern National Art Competition, The Salmagundi Club in New York and in an International Miniature Show. She has won several purchase awards including Black and Decker and the State of Maryland.
Carol Lee is a member of the American Academy of Women Artists (AAWA), the Women Artists of the West (WAOW) and the Oil Painters of America. She is published in Fresh Flowers: The Best of Flower Painting and Art of the American West. She was a "Preview Artist" in Art of the West magazine. She is
also in the 1998 American Artist magazine article, "Baltimore Realists".
Carol Lee's subject matter covers a wide range, from still-life, landscape and portraiture to Native American subject. It is important to note that Carol Lee follows the methods of the Old Masters. She uses only fine Belgian linen and panels she prepares with glue and lead. She hand grinds all of her pigments
with black oil and makes her own Flemish medium. She continues to teach these techniques through workshops and classes.
