Cavallo, Tiberius (1749-1809) The History and Practice of Aerostation. Octavo, ex library Apprentices' Library New York, stamps and ink numbers to title, illustrated with two folding engravings (tears); bound in later half buckram, marbled paper boards, water staining to the gutter, 8 x 5 in. - London: for the author by C. Dilly, P. Elmsly, and J. Stockdale, 1785.
First edition. Cavallo experimented with "inflammable air" (hydrogen) to provide lift for balloon flight. He filled soap bubbles with it and observed that they "ascend by themselves rapidly into the atmosphere." The work provides detailed plans and calculations for designing viable aerostatic machines of flight. ESTC T131745.
