Description
Dated 1954, by William Strauss Sherer, Rock Hill, South Carolina. Signed by the maker. The piece having a broken arch pediment with turned finials atop case with center upper drawer boasting carved fan above lower case housing drawers and nicely shaped skirt atop four Queen Ann legs. Red Cedar secondary wood with some yellow pine. H 86" W 37 1/2" D 21" Sold directly from the Sherer family collection. William Strauss Sherer (July 17,1913 Ð October 1,1996) was a native of Sharon, SC, He was a veteran of World War II, serving on a hospital ship, USS Wisteria. He volunteered at Historic Brattonsville, and served on many committees at St. JohnÕs United Methodist Church. Sherer had a passion for building custom furniture for many years in his wood shop. He was self-taught and inspired by early American furniture during his many visits to Williamsburg. Specialty pieces include: Grandfather clocks, highboys, and corner cupboards. All pieces are handmade by him exclusively.
