Description
Three Chinese Export Armorial Plates, including one pair and one other, the center plate Qing, Qianlong, c.1735-8, painted in the center with the arms of Dickinson impaling Wright above the motto DEI MANUS MEDICUS, the blazon with erect right hand facing left, holding a leaf, above a red and gold torse and a knight's closed helm facing left, the rim painted with chrysanthemum branches and urns issuing coral in black and iron red and gilding. This plate will be included in the forthcoming volume "Chinese Armorial Porcelain, Vol.III," to be published by Angela Howard. The pair of plates Qing, Qianlong, c.1745, painted in the center with the quarterly arms of Fazakerley impaling Lutwyche, as illustrated on p. 352 of "Chinese Armorial Porcelain, Vol.I," London, 1974, by David Sanctuary Howard, and from the service made for Nicholas Fazakerley, a member of parliament for Preston in Lancashire, who married Ann Lutwyche. Condition: Fair with hairlines, small chips and glaze wear. Single plate with old restoration to rim. One plate of pair with hairlines.
