Description
Rare Georgian Officers Full Dress Sabretache of The 1st Royal Dragoons 1820-1830, untouched as found example of the large type sabretache with heavy bullion embroidered centre with oakleaves around a large central crowned GR cipher. Outside is a thick embroidered brocade with bullion embroidered battle honours PENINSULA and WATERLOO. Complete with flap pouch to the reverse. The bullion worn and brocade has been left uncleaned and has a dark patina, the backing velvet has faded to brown. A scarce early sabretache to a elite regiment of the British army at this period. The 1st Royal Dragoons, served during Wellington’s Peninsula campaign and distinguished themselves at the Battle of Waterloo in 1815 as part of the Union Brigade, they famously captured a French Eagle of the 105th Line Regiment, the battle of Waterloo being 5 years previous to the issue date of this type of Sabretache, it is perceivable that this example was once owned by a veteran of the battle.
