Description
F-087 British Officers full dress tunic of the 28th Gloucestershire Regiment. Quality red "sealskin" fabric with a white collar, cuffs and piping. A high gold bullion embroidered sphinx with "EGYPT" decorates each floral gold tape bordered collar. (Insignia commemorates the regiment's bravery during the 1801 Defense of Alexandria). Lieutenant's heavy intertwined gold bullion cord shoulder boards with two high relief bullion stars. "A" shaped heavy gold bullion 5" high decoration on each cuff is outlined with additional gold cord - culminating into a pretzel design above the high point. Thread loops for a medal bar on the left chest. Eight age toned gilt brass buttons bear a relief crown, a sphinx above the "Egypt" and the regimental motto. White piped skirt with 6 matching buttons having the crowned sphinx motif. Original "padded" white silk-type lining. Circa 1880-1900. Scarce. Several small surface matted areas on the front of tunic, otherwise would rate very good. II
