Description

A very fine and rare , and elaborately carved janus Garra initiation idol, painted with mineral pigments and featuring double hokks on either side. The Idol was apparently suspended from the rafters of the meeting house. Papua New Guinea, Hunstein Mountains. The idol measures 40 x 8.5 inches. Field collected Prior to 1980 by Rudy Ceasar, then acquired by John C. Edler, Indiana.
