"Clay" by Walter Emerson Baum(1884-1956) is an original oil on canvas depicting a unique portrait of a man with left eye appearing to be closed and right side of colored shirt potentially a tie or shadow to show a unique balance. Portrait may be of someone named "Clay T. Hillegas" which is written at least three times on various locations on verso (once or twice on canvas, again canvas frame, and again on canvas edge that adheres to frame - See photos). The piece is signed at least twice by Walter Emerson Baum. Once clearly in oil on top right off center on front "W E Baum", "W E Baum" again in pencil on verso of frame, and possible above date on back of canvas that reads "1956". Other various writings on verso including "16 X 20" handwritten on canvas and what appears to be "Sellersuille" on frame under Clay T. Hillegas". Frame is intricate carved wood with almost a "brushed brass" type color. Measurements: Painting is 16" (w) X 20" (h) and frame is approximately 24" (w) X 28" (h). 1% of hammer price for all items sold at Masters of Art Volume II Art Series Auction will be donated to the Humane Society.

Reviewed by naked eye and under UV light. Good studio condition both painting and frame.
